Tatarstan has the best industrial parks in Russia
When it comes to Russian industrial parks and special economic zones (SEZ), the Republic of Tatarstan plays a special role. The Industrial Park Technopolis Khimgrad and the SEZ Alabuga occupy the first two places according to the analysis center Expert.
Alabuga is by far the most successful and most profitable SEZ in Russia. Since its foundation in 2005, 55 companies have settled there. In September 2017, the Supervisory Board of SEZ Alabuga approved the establishment of four further companies. These include manufacturers of carbon fibers (Khimprom Engineering), sanitary paper (Hyat Kimya), mineral wool (Rockwool) and mineral fertilizers. The German building materials manufacturer Knauf took over the production of floor coverings from its competitor Armstrong in the SEZ Alabuga.
In addition to classical production areas, Tatarstan offers its founders space for research and development with the Technopolis Khimgrad. The startup Aviaresheniya builds there flight platforms for spraying fields with chemicals.
The Innopolis University offers IT companies good development opportunities. Main focus is the digital economy. In August 2017, the Government of Tatarstan approved the addition of 14 other IT companies with a total investment of 28.5 million euros. By the end of 2017, about 70 companies have already settled there.
Even though Tatarstan technoparks are already among the best in Russia, the republic does not want to rest on its laurels. Many new clusters are being planned, including the ones focused on production of pharmaceuticals, furniture and textiles, as well as a logistics hub. The most important location factors are well-developed infrastructure and favorable tax rebates for investors.
