Unified requirements for energy efficiency in the Eurasian Economic Union
A special commission of The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) has developed a new technical regulation “On the requirements for energy efficiency of energy-consuming devices” in cooperation with the EAEU countries. This measure aims to provide EAEU consumers with more energy-efficient equipment.
The list of affected products mainly includes computers, refrigerators, televisions, washing machines, vacuum cleaners, air conditioners and a wide range of other household appliances.
Adoption of the technical regulation will ensure unhindered movement of these products on the market of the Union, which as a result will significantly reduce costs, primarily for manufacturers and suppliers of goods, as well as reduce the number of poor-quality products and equipment with a high level of energy consumption. The document has been approved at a meeting of the ECE Collegium on July 17 this year after careful consultation with the business community of the five EAEU members.
Most of the EAEU countries are convinced that declarations should become the main form of conformity assessment (for 14 of 18 types of energy-consuming appliances), which primarily derives from the interests of business, and not from the interests of conformity assessment bodies, since certification is a much more labor-intensive, complex and costly procedure than the declaration. The approval of the technical regulation is scheduled for discussion at the next meeting.
